About Us
Dakshini Society located at Anna Nagar, Chennai – 600040, is one of the many diaspora Bengali organizations in Chennai. Founded in 1995 by a group of like minded personalities from different walks of life, belonging to different religious faiths, speaking different languages, hailing from different parts of the country, but sharing the common views of serving with compassion, national integration, social harmony and preserving our cultural heritage.
Like every year, this year also Dakshini Society and its members are gearing up to celebrate Durga Puja. This event is celebrated with a lot of pomp and grandeur. The entire span of 5 days would include cultural programmes, social gatherings, lunch to members and their guests, in-house competitions apart from the prayers offered to Goddess Durga and her family.
The organization also contributes to the society by organizing several community service activities throughout the year. Some of the activities include Blood Donation Camps, Sponsoring X Std. Students through ‘Single Teacher School‘, Donating to NGOs which help meritorious students from economically deprived sections of the society, Donating to orphanages and old age homes etc.

A five-day social and cultural extravaganza promises to enthrall all, with its myriad offerings. It is one of the largest Indoor Sharodotsav events in India at the fully airconditioned BSNL & Postal Community Hall, 21st Main Road, Anna Nagar, Chennai.
Celebrity artists from Kolkata and Bollywood create an electrifying environment. A three-day free distribution of bhog for all visitors draws special attraction. This year we expect a footfall of around 2,00,000 – 3,00,000 devotees per day.
For the benefit of our partners and sponsors, we have secured around 150,000 square feet of advertising space at the venue with Innovative Branding Options, Video walls, stalls etc.
Our Vision
Chennai is one of the cities in India having rapid growth in terms of population, housing, road connectivity and increasing number of elderly. This rapid urbanization having significant impacts on the elderly like lack of access to quality health care, limited housing options, increased levels of poverty and social isolation, and decreased levels of physical activity.
The issues of senior citizens are numerous and range from health care and financial security to social isolation and neglect Older adults are also more likely to experience social isolation due to living alone, physical limitations, lack of mobility, and health issues.
- The Dakshini Society decided to start assisted living center for senior citizens with a perspective to engage the elderly as a community caring and supporting each other’s.
- The association wishes to start programs like health check-ups, affordable nutritional meals, counselling etc.
- Additionally, the association also offering social activities and volunteering opportunity to elderly and also transportation services for visiting various places in and around Chennai.
Our vision is to make our Assisted Living facility into a “home away from home” for senior citizens irrespective of language, cast and creed. Through this center the association will ensure that every elderly will have dignified life full of happiness and good health. It is an appeal by the association to the society to support their initiative in developing an infrastructure in the form of assisted living center for senior citizens.
